Principles,
not dogmas

Here, “universal” names a claim to broad significance that must be examined; it does not amount to automatic scientific proof. Some principles belong to the philosophical core of the Theory of Descent, while others remain spiritual hypotheses or analogies that must stay open to dialogue, experience, and criticism.

ONE
A METHOD OF INQUIRY

Three questions for every principle

  1. What does it explain?Which phenomenon or relationship becomes more intelligible through it?
  2. Where does it meet its limits? In which situations does the formulation cease to be adequate?
  3. What kind of ethics does it inspire? How does it affect recognition, freedom, responsibility, and care?
